TAXI - BLOG: Coke “Happiness Machine”

It’s not often I get warm and fuzzy feelings for big brands like Coca-Cola, but there are exceptions. This video has made the rounds, but as always there are people who haven’t seen it. Posted for them, enjoy.

TAXI - BLOG: Get up and go?

Get up and go from Stefan Werc on Vimeo.

I save a lot of things online. I like stuff on vimeo which is where this video came from, via a friend on twitter (thanks zack!) I favourite videos on youtube, they auto post to facebook. I favourite tweets while on the train, they get auto synced to delicious via packrati.us. I post to my blog which posts to facebook, to virb (which I no longer maintain), same goes to my tumblr which held my interest for a short time relegated to be just a stream of what I’m doing elsewhere. My list of personal URL’s is long, peppered with different screen names, passwords, recent findings and abandoned ideas. Truth be told I manage them poorly, I update less and less and constantly look for the simplest way to integrate them all so they all don’t go stagnant. Maybe it is time to get up and go

TAXI: Mansbridge on….INTERNET!

This is an awesome blast from the past. CBC’s first report on this new thing called, INTERNET (I love that they didn’t call it THE internet back then). It’s just a good reminder of how we used to live before we were constantly wired.

The best part is that they claim INTERNET is mostly free from “cursing, swearing and scrutiny”. My how things change.

TAXI - BLOG: An Open Apology to Facebook

Dear Facebook,

I can’t speak for everyone in the advertising business, that wouldn’t be fair.
But I will speak for myself and say that I am sorry. I am so, so, so very sorry.

We have abused you. We have treated you like a bar tab on a corporate MasterCard.
We’ve simply gone too far.

I have been judging some awards shows lately, and I have come to realize that we have filled you with millions (perhaps billions) of profiles for every major and excruciatingly minor character from every ad campaign on the face of the earth. Don’t get me wrong, there are great examples of agencies treating you well, but too often your role in our work seems to get relegated (in terms of time and budget) to some poor art director creating a fan page at 3am on the night before a campaign launches. This is not fair to the art director, it’s not fair to the audience, but mostly, it’s not fair to you.

To make amends, I will go on record right now and say that the guy in the oversized hat the background of a spot does not need a fan page. Nor does the flying dog. And nor does the fake company that sells the fake product we invented that’s worse than our client’s product.

I am very sorry.
I will try to do better.

TAXI - BLOG: 4SQ day!

Foursquare is celebrating! With just over a year of being active, and somewhere close to 750,000+ users 4SQ has flipped the game when it comes to location based social networks. With deals in place with Bravo, HBO and Starbucks it can only stand to grow.

4SQDay which was started on a whim by a Tampa Bay Optometrist, yes and eye doctor who dabbles in social media grew in strength seemingly overnight via Facebook and Twitter. No doubt that when the Foursquare guys heard about all this they were stoked to say the least. With 4sqday.com you can check out whats happening today in over 50 different cities, things like swarm meetups where 50 or more people checkin to a single venue to get the illusive swarm badge, to seeing what venues are promoting deals.

All of this bodes well for the location based startup, and while gowalla and brightkite are also great services, i’m finding there is a bit more heart with foursquare users, myself included. want to watch a neat little video about 4SQ? See below.

TAXI - BLOG: Why everyone needs an iPad (and by everyone, I mean me)

Now you can enjoy Alice in Wonderland, without all the Hallucinogenics. Can’t wait to see all the new ideas that the iPad will inspire. And I also can’t wait to stand in a very long line somewhere when it gets to Canada.
